How to Define Your Brand Voice for AI-Generated Content

The difference between generic AI output and posts that sound unmistakably like you is the quality of your brand profile. Here's how to describe your voice so the AI can reproduce it.

  1. Describe your audience precisely

'B2B decision makers' is too vague; 'operations leads at 20-200 person logistics companies' gives the AI a reader to write for. Specific audiences produce specific content.

  2. Pin down your tone

Choose 3-4 adjectives (e.g. direct, pragmatic, optimistic, slightly irreverent) and note what you never sound like (e.g. corporate, salesy, buzzword-heavy). Contrast is as useful as description.

  3. List your core topics and takes

Beyond topics, capture your opinions — what do you believe that others in your industry get wrong? Takes are what make content memorable; give the AI yours.

  4. Feed examples

Reference your best-performing past posts or writing you admire. Concrete examples anchor style far better than abstract descriptions.

  5. Iterate based on drafts

When a draft feels off, don't just fix the post — update the brand profile so the next hundred drafts improve too. Editing the source beats editing the output.

Pro tip: Read a draft out loud. If you wouldn't say that sentence to a client, adjust your tone settings until you would.
